Critical & Strategic Problem Solving Training
The ability to think critically and solve complex problems under pressure is one of the most valuable – and most underdeveloped – capabilities in leadership teams.
This training builds it deliberately, systematically, and in a way that holds in real-world conditions.

Critical and Strategic Problem Solving Training
Most organisations face a recognisable pattern: capable, intelligent teams that consistently address symptoms rather than root causes. They generate solutions without the analytical rigour to evaluate them properly. They make decisions under pressure that look different in hindsight.
The Critical and Strategic Problem Solving Training is designed to break that pattern.
Built on the BEAT™ (Beck Emotional Access Technique®) framework and drawing on current neuroscience and cognitive science, this programme equips managers, team leaders, and decision-makers with a structured, practical approach to critical thinking, problem analysis, and strategic implementation.
This is not a generic workshop. Every programme begins with a pre-training consultation to understand your organisation’s specific culture, challenges, and context — and is tailored accordingly. No two programmes are delivered identically.
Our training groups are intentionally capped at 8 participants. This ensures every individual receives focused attention, personalised feedback, and an experience that produces real, lasting behavioural change — not just an introduction to concepts.
How the Critical and Strategic Problem Solving Training will impact your organisation
Structured Critical Thinking
Teams develop the ability to analyse problems systematically - moving beyond instinct and assumption to evidence-based reasoning.
The result is decisions that are more rigorous, more defensible, and more effective under pressure.
Collaborative Problem-Solving
The training builds a shared language and methodology for tackling challenges as a team.
This improves group dynamics, reduces conflict in decision-making, and creates a culture where problems are approached with clarity and confidence rather than avoidance or anxiety.
Real-World Application
Every module includes hands-on exercises and real-world scenarios drawn directly from your organisation's context.
Participants don't just learn concepts - they practise applying them under conditions that mirror actual workplace challenges, so the learning transfers immediately.
Critical and Strategic Problem Solving Training
By the end of this course, participants will:
- Apply structured critical thinking frameworks to complex organisational challenges
- Identify, analyse, and articulate problems clearly — distinguishing root causes from surface symptoms
- Generate, evaluate, and implement strategic solutions with rigour and confidence
- Collaborate effectively using a shared, evidence-based problem-solving methodology
- Evaluate the outcomes of implemented solutions and adapt strategies for continuous improvement
- Communicate proposed solutions persuasively to senior stakeholders and decision-makers
How does the Critical and Strategic Problem Solving Training work?
This program is built on the BEAT™ framework – a neuroscience-informed methodology developed by Fay Beck that addresses not just the cognitive dimensions of problem-solving, but the emotional and behavioural patterns that shape how people think and decide under pressure.
Most problem-solving training focuses on frameworks and models. BEAT™ goes further. It addresses the internal states that cause capable people to default to habitual thinking patterns rather than genuine critical analysis – the anxiety that narrows thinking, the cognitive shortcuts that bypass rigorous evaluation, the behavioural habits that undermine even the most well-designed problem-solving process.
By training the cognitive and behavioural systems simultaneously, participants develop problem-solving capability that holds under real workplace conditions – not just in a training room.
Critical and Strategic Problem Solving Training MODULES

Understanding Critical Thinking
Introduction to the foundational principles of critical thinking and their application in organisational contexts. Frameworks for critical analysis including deductive and inductive reasoning, and how cognitive biases shape – and distort – the way we evaluate problems.

Problem Identification and Analysis
Techniques for identifying problems early and understanding their organisational impact. Data collection and analytical tools for identifying root causes rather than surface symptoms – and the common patterns that cause organisations to address the wrong problem entirely.

Creative Problem-Solving Techniques
Brainstorming, lateral thinking, and mind mapping techniques for generating genuinely novel solutions. Application of design thinking principles to develop approaches that address the real needs of those affected – rather than the most obvious or familiar solution.

Decision-Making Frameworks
Decision-making models including cost-benefit analysis and multi-criteria decision analysis. Techniques for assessing risk and uncertainty in complex decisions – and the role of emotional state in determining which options we seriously consider.

Strategic Implementation of Solutions
Developing comprehensive action plans including timelines and resource allocation. Strategies for gaining stakeholder buy-in and managing organisational change effectively – including how to present solutions persuasively under challenge.

Evaluating and Reflecting on Solutions
Qualitative and quantitative evaluation of implemented solutions. Building a culture of feedback and continuous improvement through structured reflection – and developing the team’s capacity to learn from both successful and unsuccessful outcomes.

FAQs
Will the course be specifically designed for my organisation?
Yes. Once we receive a booking, we reach out to organise a pre-training consultation. We use that consultation to understand your culture, gather insight into the specific challenges your team is facing, and adjust the programme and delivery in line with your organisation’s needs. No two programmes are delivered identically.
How many hours is each training day?
Each training day runs for 8 hours and includes breaks totalling 1 hour – giving 7 hours of active training time per day.
Why are groups capped at 8 participants?
We cap group sizes at 8 to ensure every participant receives focused attention and genuine personalised feedback throughout the programme. Larger groups dilute the hands-on, behavioural work that makes BEAT™ training effective. This is a deliberate quality decision, not a capacity limitation.
Our team is larger than 8 people - can you accommodate us?
Yes. For teams larger than 8 we offer bespoke solutions – either running multiple cohorts or delivering the programme with additional practitioners. Please contact us to discuss the right approach for your organisation.
Where does the training take place?
Training is delivered at our trusted training studio in London, or at your premises. Our coaches can travel to any destination within Greater London as standard.
We are not based in London - can you travel to us?
Yes. Our coaches can travel anywhere in the UK – and internationally – to deliver training. Please get in touch for a quotation based on your location.
Can the training be delivered online?
Yes. We offer a fully online version of this programme for teams who need remote delivery.
How is this different from other problem-solving training courses?
Most problem-solving training focuses exclusively on frameworks and models. This programme is built on the BEAT™ framework – which addresses the emotional and behavioural patterns that shape how people think under pressure, alongside the cognitive tools. The result is capability that transfers into real workplace situations, not just training room exercises.
Who is this training designed for?
This training is designed for managers, team leaders, senior professionals, and decision-makers in organisations that want to build genuine critical thinking capability – not just introduce tools and frameworks.
